Repainted white shaker-style kitchen cabinets, West Lake Hills, TX cabinet refresh

Near Westlake High School, we handled a full round of cabinet touch-up and repainting through the house — kitchen, downstairs bath, the primary bath and walk-in closet, three additional bedroom bathrooms, a bar area, and a built-in entertainment center that had picked up some dog-scratch marks over the years. That side of the job took two days.

The same visit also covered something you won’t find on a typical cabinetry job: painting the plastered face of the home’s foundation skirting — about three feet high where it’s most exposed, tapering down to six inches along the sides. It’s the kind of detail work that comes up on a well-built home from the 1990s, and it’s not something most contractors think to offer alongside cabinet work.

Another West Lake Hills Job

Near Samsung’s Austin R&D Center (SARC) and the Rivercrest neighborhood, off West Lake Drive, we were called in on a set of cherry cabinets that a previous contractor had left unfinished. We pulled the doors, took them off-site to refinish properly, and reinstalled them once they were done right — about two to three days of actual refinishing work. It’s a common enough call: fixing someone else’s rushed or incomplete job rather than starting from scratch.

Cabinets You’ll Find in West Lake Hills Homes

West Lake Hills’ housing stock is a genuine mix of eras — the median home dates to 1992, but roughly a third of homes were built in the 2000s or later. That split shows up in the cabinets we get called out for:

Homes from the 1990s and early 2000s commonly went in with oak or cherry cabinetry — raised-panel doors, a warm wood tone that was the standard of that era. Twenty-five-plus years later, that’s exactly the style homeowners are asking us to update: refinished, painted, or refaced into something that fits current taste without tearing the kitchen out. The cherry cabinet refinishing job near Rivercrest is a good example.

Newer builds in the area — the 2010s-and-later homes — are more likely to already have painted or shaker-style cabinetry, so the calls we get from those homeowners tend to be less about updating a dated look and more about added storage, built-ins, or matching new work to what’s already there.
